Tie a Bowline Knot with Only
One Hand. Make a loose slip knot and slip the end of the rope
though the loop. As the knot tightens, the slip knot turns
inside out and makes bowline. If you put the end of a second rope through the loop, you end up with a sheet bend. Weavers use this kind of knot so they can control exactly where the knot will be - on the back side of their project. |

The Single Handed Bowline
Technique is taught by our military to those soldiers who might
need to tie themselves to a line dangling down from a helicopter.
Hopefully, we won't need be picked up this way, but I think about this every hurricane season. |
